Because is a word that introduces reason. We use because all the time to express the reason for something. There are two key structures to know…
Becauseは、理由を述べるときに使う単語です。私達は、何かについての理由を説明するときいつもBecauseを使います。ここに２つの鍵となる構成があります。
1. We stayed at home because it was raining.
私達は雨が降っているので、家にいました。
This sentence shows the structure after because…
この文書は、Becauseの後に
because + clause (it was dark)
because +節（暗かった）
And we can also say…
またこのように言うこともできます。
2. We stayed at home because of the rain.
私達は、雨のため家にいました。
because of + something (the dark)
because +何か（暗さ）
And also remember, you can turn the sentences around as well…
そして、文章を入れ替えることができることも忘れないでください。
1. Because it was raining, we stayed at home.
2. Because of the rain, we stayed at home.
Today, I’d like to show you two more expressions you can use instead of because of.
今日は、because ofのかわりに使えるもう２つの表現を紹介したいと思います。
Due to
Owing to
So we can say:
このようにいうことができます。
Because of the rain, we stayed at home.
Due to the rain, we stayed at home.
Owing to the rain, we stayed at home.
Which are the same as:
そしてこれらも同じです。
We stayed at home because of the rain.
We stayed at home due to the rain.
We stayed at home owing to the rain.
Note: We cannot use owing to in this way. Owing to most naturally starts the sentence.
注意：owing toはこのようには、使えません。Owing toから、文章を始めるのが普通です。
So, that’s the difference between because and because of, and there are some extra expressions you can use there as well.
